Growth

Growth is noticed mostly by the length of your hair, however for curly girls that is not the only factor. When I started my no heat journey in 2011 my hair barely curled up, it was more like waves. Now in 2015 my hair is very curly and the volume of my hair has increased as well. The wonderful thing about taking pictures of your hair growth journey is that you actually see the growth in your hair, and in my case I really needed to see it. I thought that my hair wasn't growing at all, when in fact it was growing in the volume of my hair and in my curl pattern which are big indicators of hair growth. Lets just say I am pleased with the progress! The first picture was taken in 2011, my how time flies! The second one was taken in July 2015.

Bringing in the New Year

Took a well needed vacay to Miami and got the chance to tour the city! Very beautiful place, however the humidity down here has been no lower than 80% all week. Which means my flat ironed hair didn't stand a chance, I basically had to wear buns and top knots the entire trip. But it's cool, bobby pins and wild lioness hair had to work for the time being until I get back to Chicago. Enjoy the pics!!!

Length Check!

Check out where my hair length is in my new video!

A few things to know, my ultimate hair goal is for purely strong and healthy hair. If I get to my goal length than that is a bonus however I am not aiming for length I'm aiming for healthy hair. But it is fun to see my hair grow and I am curious to see if I am retaining any length at all, so why not chart it and watch it grow. So my goal length is 14 inches by next summer. I'm already at 10 inches in the back, 11 inches in the middle, and 9 inches at the top. Is this goal possible yes, will I cry if I don't get to my goal length, absolutely not. With all the moisturizing that I will be doing and deep treatments I believe that this goal is very attainable.

I'm Back!!!

So I took a year hiatus... Learned a few things about myself, went through some struggles and came out on top. In the process though I neglected my hair (sadly) had a couple of set backs, bad salon experiences and to tight weaves. However as of September I reverted back to being natural at a certain point you just get tired, tired of stringy ends and misshaped curls. So here are my rules for myself:

1. No weave till the end of December possibly.

2. No heat on a regular basis, just at the end of the month to do length checks.

3. Moisturize my hair when needed.

4. Find my holy grail of products.

That's what I have brainstormed so far, I will keep you posted on my journey. Also I started to do youtube videos so that you can see what I'm doing, and what works for my hair.

The Easiest Bun Tutorial Ever!!!

Want to make a full bun after you have washed your hair??? Welp here is how.

Not much is needed to accomplish a bun, but a brush, scrunchy, water bottle, and some jojoba oil (my favorite oil). Enjoy the video if you have any questions feel free to post them below and I answer them as soon as I can. Also if you have any type of video that you would like to see (how to's, tutorials, product reviews) let me know and I will attempt to post those as well.

Enjoy!!!

Length Check for October

So here is a side by side comparison of the progress for the month of September. Didn't use heat and deep conditioned every two weeks and used natural oils to moisturize my hair. Although I do feel like it is time for a trim 😩. I wasn't going to trim anything till December but my hair after I flat ironed on a low heat setting just doesn't flow for me. And I don't want damaged hair to grow which to me it won't grow if it is damaged sooooo..... I gotta make a trip to the salon and get these ends clipped especially the middle part and make my hair back even. Who know I might even throw in some layers to add some body to my naturally thin hair.

Pray for me... 🙏

Protective Hair Style: Goddess Braid

Hands down one of my favorite hairstyles especially for the summer, and now for the fall I can pair it with a hat. For the following week I will be wearing this style!!!

Much Love,
Bri

BSL Challenge

While flipping through my twitter (@BriRose26) my fave YouTuber IvyCharlaine posted this picture...

So I started with her, I already was doing protective styles but on the weekends I let my hair flow. So I am going to do this challenge and post the pics of the hairstyles that I will be doing. I started the week off with a low poof with my ends tucked in.

Wore that style for two days and did a bun Thursday and Friday. Currently I am on the hunt for some cute protective styles once I find some I will post them along with my attempt to do them.

Birthday Hair!!!

My birthday was this past month and I enjoyed myself greatly. Despite the fun I battled with what to do withy hair. I originally wanted to put some weave in my hair that way I wouldn't have to deal with it nor damage my hair with excessive heat. So I started the hunt and was highly unsuccessful, two major things prevented me from purchasing hair: the price, and travel. I didn't have time to travel and pick up the hair and I felt like I didn't want to spend an insane amount of money for "Brazilian" hair for it to last a month max. I gave up and started thinking of what I could do to my hair, I went from a bob, to Beyonce curls, to just wild and free curls. Then the problem arose of will my hair and my outfit match. Then I started flipping through the past pics that I have of natural hair celebs and ran across this pic of Kaylin Garcia where her hair was wanded and figured I try that. That was the best decision ever, I went to target brought a wand and curled my hair, that look fit my outfit which had a pinup feel to it and saved me soooooo much money and is now one of my go to hair styles!

FYI I am not naked I have on a half top.

Dry Hair

Currently I am battling dry hair, and shedding more than usual. I'm not sure if its the added stress that I've been experiencing or the lack of me caring for my hair properly. So for the month of September I will be protective styling my hair. The weather is changing and I want my hair to thrive like it did in the summer. At night I will go back to adding water (the best moisture technique) and sealing my ends with castor oil mixed with peppermint oil. When I sealed my ends using castor oil not only did I retain length, shedding went down to a minimum. I already started Monday with this change lets see how much length I can retain.

Braided Hairstyle

Day 19... Braided Hairstyle. Saw this look while watching the BET pre-show on Nia Long who seems to never age. I want to imitate this look soon as a protective style for the winter months when they come.

Much Love,
Bri

Curl Pattern

Day 18... Curl Pattern. My curl pattern is a mix between 3b and 3c. The middle part of my hair is 3c and the rest of my hair is 3b a looser curl. I think that my once my hair gets longer my curl pattern will become even looser as I have seen amongst other natural hair 3b/3c naturalistas.

Much Love,
Bri

Before and After

Day 16... Before and After. Not doing the typical before after, but a well needed before and after. I made curly clip-in pieces so that my hair would be fuller without having to do an actual sew in. It is highly important that you shape you clip-ins to your natural hair shape, because if you don't you will not have a cohesive look at all. And trust me if you don't it will not look appealing at all. Like the picture below, I didn't shape my clip-ins at all in the picture in the left, but if you look at the right picture you can see how much better the appearance is once I shaped it.

Much Love,
Bri

Curl Crush

Day 15... Curl Crush. My curl crush I my grandmother MommieDear. I learned how to do my hair from watching her, she had the longest pretty hair that I have ever seen although she is no longer with my family and I she is truly missed. She I my hair goal, her hair was waist length and super healthy, she rarely used heat and didn't let just anybody in her hair.

Much Love

Favorite Natural Hair YouTube Guru

Day 14... Favorite Natural Hair YouTube Guru. I have a slew of natural hair guru's that I watch daily. One day I will name them all but my all time favorite is torn between two, which is Shameless Maya and IvyCharlaine. I've watched IvyCharlaine grow from neck length to almost waist length straight. Shameless Maya is just a joy to watch she is hilarious and does different types videos not just hair. They both cut their hair recently for their own personal reasons but once again natural hair is not about how long your hair can grow but about how healthy your hair should be.

Much Love,
Bri

FlexiRods

Day 13... FlexiRods on naturalhair. Flexirods are commonly used to make more defined, looser curls. Essentially you wrap you hair around the round which bends so that the rods can stay. There are different sizes of flexirods, the smaller the rod the tighter the curl, if the rod is big it create waves. Its better for me to use flexirods when my hair is freshly washed and with little oil in it. I also let me air dry which can take 3 to 4 hours, however you can blow dry your hair to speed the process along. There is an example of how to do flexirods down below by the YouTuber KaiRox who has a lovely head of hair.

Enjoy!!!

Curl Hawk

Day 12... Curl Hawk. My favorite style is a curl hawk, mainly because it looks super cute on everybody else when they do it but when I attempt to do it...not so much (lol). I will achieve this look one day hopefully before my hair grows to long.

Much Love,
Bri

Workout Hair

Day 11... Workout Hair, pretty simple when it comes to working out and my hair. My hair goes up in a ponytail so that it is out of my hair and out of the way. Nothing worse than hair falling down in your face while you are working out (blah).

Much Love,
Bri

Fave Short Hair Celeb

Day 10... Fave short hair celebrity hands down goes to Halle Berry. She is just a flawless individual who is an extremely talented actress and her hair (like all naturals) is very versatile.

Much Love,
Bri
