Day 19... Braided Hairstyle. Saw this look while watching the BET pre-show on Nia Long who seems to never age. I want to imitate this look soon as a protective style for the winter months when they come.

This lovely blog is all about my natural hair journey, including the failures and triumphs (lol). Besides hair there will of course be fashion and monthly challenges and random rants about whatever interests me...ENJOY!!!!

Day 18... Curl Pattern. My curl pattern is a mix between 3b and 3c. The middle part of my hair is 3c and the rest of my hair is 3b a looser curl. I think that my once my hair gets longer my curl pattern will become even looser as I have seen amongst other natural hair 3b/3c naturalistas.

Day 16... Before and After. Not doing the typical before after, but a well needed before and after. I made curly clip-in pieces so that my hair would be fuller without having to do an actual sew in. It is highly important that you shape you clip-ins to your natural hair shape, because if you don't you will not have a cohesive look at all. And trust me if you don't it will not look appealing at all. Like the picture below, I didn't shape my clip-ins at all in the picture in the left, but if you look at the right picture you can see how much better the appearance is once I shaped it.

Day 15... Curl Crush. My curl crush I my grandmother MommieDear. I learned how to do my hair from watching her, she had the longest pretty hair that I have ever seen although she is no longer with my family and I she is truly missed. She I my hair goal, her hair was waist length and super healthy, she rarely used heat and didn't let just anybody in her hair.

Day 14... Favorite Natural Hair YouTube Guru. I have a slew of natural hair guru's that I watch daily. One day I will name them all but my all time favorite is torn between two, which is Shameless Maya and IvyCharlaine. I've watched IvyCharlaine grow from neck length to almost waist length straight. Shameless Maya is just a joy to watch she is hilarious and does different types videos not just hair. They both cut their hair recently for their own personal reasons but once again natural hair is not about how long your hair can grow but about how healthy your hair should be.

Day 13... FlexiRods on naturalhair. Flexirods are commonly used to make more defined, looser curls. Essentially you wrap you hair around the round which bends so that the rods can stay. There are different sizes of flexirods, the smaller the rod the tighter the curl, if the rod is big it create waves. Its better for me to use flexirods when my hair is freshly washed and with little oil in it. I also let me air dry which can take 3 to 4 hours, however you can blow dry your hair to speed the process along. There is an example of how to do flexirods down below by the YouTuber KaiRox who has a lovely head of hair.
Enjoy!!!

Day 12... Curl Hawk. My favorite style is a curl hawk, mainly because it looks super cute on everybody else when they do it but when I attempt to do it...not so much (lol). I will achieve this look one day hopefully before my hair grows to long.

Day 11... Workout Hair, pretty simple when it comes to working out and my hair. My hair goes up in a ponytail so that it is out of my hair and out of the way. Nothing worse than hair falling down in your face while you are working out (blah).

Day 10... Fave short hair celebrity hands down goes to Halle Berry. She is just a flawless individual who is an extremely talented actress and her hair (like all naturals) is very versatile.

Baggy method is when you moisturize your hair with your conditioner and place your hair in a bag either over night or throughout the day. It does not matter what kind of bag you use just as long as your hair ends are completely covered. Below is a YouTube video of how to accomplish the baggy method from the YouTuber HairCrush.

Day 7... found this photo via instagram, and I would love to do this look one day. Not only is it an updo its also a protective style as well since the ends are tucked in. Definitely a year round hairstyle.
Day 7... My hands down favorite hair accessory are headbands, especially the ones that can be tied up into bows. Hair accessories can make a boring hairstyle fun and funky.
Day 6... My conditioning product of choice is Giovanni Conditioner, I purchase mine from Target for about $7 or $8 dollars max.
Day 4.... A result of using the big curlformers gives you a looser curl, I believe the colors are neon yellow and hot pink. You can find these curlformers at Sally's as far as the price goes I am unsure because I bought mine when they first came out... literally lol.
As promised here is my alterations to the photo challenge feel free to join and post pics.

So I've decided to participate in an instagram curls photo challenge, and I'm pretty sure we all know what curls photo challenge is lol. If not, let me explain, basically each day has a different picture that the person participating is suppose to post on their instagram account (pretty simple right?). I got the jist of my photo challenge from @Returnofthecurls2 and I mixed up the rest of the photo challenge with things I like. I will post my alterations to the photo challenge tomorrow. My favorite hairstyle is pretty simple free and loose curls, not pinned up and pinned back just loose and free.
The natural hair term of the day is ACV aka apple cider vinegar.
Benefits
*good conditioner
*cleaning agent
*effective germ killer
*Balance the ph of your hair
*Remove build up
*Relieves dandruff and itchy scalp
The best time or way to use ACV is after you shampoo your hair, make sure you dilute your ACV with a liter of water. Below is a video of how ACV is used.
Enjoy!

This time around I used Clairol Textures and Tones Silken Black, and it I liked it. Silken is a word that should not be used loosely, it definitely gives the appearance of super shiny hair. And its not drying either definitely very moisturizing. I got my box from Walgreens for $4.99, yes it was on sale lol.

Its the first of the month so its time for an update on my length and the mini heat challenge that I did. First of all, this was the longest 30 days ever (boy I tell you) there was days where I didn't want to see a curl honestly. But I got through it and learned to deal with my hair all over again. On the days where I was annoyed I put up in a bun or a high bun with a scarf. However I did fall back in love with my wash n go. I fell back in love with my natural curl pattern once again the only thing I dislike is the drying time. For my hair to fully dry it takes about an hour -_- ain't nobody got time for that lol. Since I know how long it takes I know what hairstyles to do and I can gauge the amount of time it takes for me to get ready.
Now when I did my hair shoot I did get a trim so that kind of messed up my length check a bit. However I still have comparison pics and I can see the growth all around.
Doing another heat challenge for the month of July which should be easy since I made it through june. But we will see can never predict what happens.
Much Love,
Bri
